Everything you need to know about your supplementary health insurance
How do reimbursements work?
If you activate teletransmission, your supplementary health insurance reimbursements will be processed automatically!
Teletransmission facilitates the exchange of information between different healthcare stakeholders, such as doctors, social security, and the supplementary health insurance. You will no longer need to send your medical invoices to your health insurance and supplementary insurance.
Important: To activate teletransmission, please send us your social security rights certificate via your customer portal or by email at sante@lovys.com.
If you have any questions regarding your reimbursement requests, feel free to contact our teams by phone from Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 6 pm, at +33 9 78 45 22 91.
Are medical fee overruns reimbursed?
No, Lovys insurance does not cover medical fee overruns. To find out if your practitioner charges additional fees, it is essential to know their sector:
- Doctors in sector 1:
A doctor practicing in sector 1 is a doctor affiliated with Social Security. They charge a fixed rate without additional fees. Their fees correspond to the rates that serve as the basis for the health insurance reimbursement (conventional rates).
Your supplementary insurance generally complements the reimbursement from social security, and your out-of-pocket expenses are almost nil.
- Doctors in sector 2:
These are affiliated doctors but with “free fees.” They set their fees freely. Therefore, they may charge additional fees.
Social security reimburses the consultation with a doctor in sector 2 based on the basic rate. Your supplementary insurance may complement the reimbursement from social security, and an amount may remain at your expense.
- Doctors in sector 3 (non-affiliated):
These are doctors who have not signed any agreement with social security. They apply rates independently. For example, if a non-affiliated doctor charges you €30 for a consultation, social security will only reimburse you €3 (deducting a €1 flat fee). The remaining costs at your expense can be significant, especially since sector 3 practitioners often apply additional fees. Your out-of-pocket expenses can be very high.
Is it mandatory to subscribe to health insurance?
No, you are not obligated to subscribe to supplementary health insurance. However, we strongly recommend it! Why? Because your healthcare expenses can quickly impact your budget. Medical treatments can be costly, and you are not immune to unforeseen circumstances.
That’s why we recommend subscribing to affordable insurance to be reimbursed for part or all of your medical expenses. This way, you won’t have to forgo your care due to a lack of funds. Above all, take care of yourself 💜
What is the 100% Health Basket?
The 100% Health Basket is an initiative implemented by the government in 2021 aimed at fully reimbursing optical, audiology, and dental expenses for French individuals benefiting from health insurance.
